Information on Commando Memorial

At the setting of the sun, and in the morning, we shall remember them... the Commando War Memorial Spean Bridge

A mile west of the village of Spean Bridge, on the A82 north from Fort William, is the famous Commando Memorial. Erected in 1952, it commemorates those commandos who fell during the Second World War - many of whom trained in this area when based at the commandos' basic training centre at Achnacarry

Take the road along the Caledonian Canal from Chase The Wild Goose Hostel for 5 miles, avoiding the main A82 road, and you will arrive at the Commando War Memorial. A beautiful, yet haunting setting whatever the time of day...
